Human Dimension Steering Group

Leading social sciences and humanities related expert groups at ICES.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Human Dimension Steering Group is responsible for guiding and supporting expert groups that are working on social sciences and humanities in ICES, from evaluating contributions of the sea to livelihoods, cultural identities, and recreation — to informing ecosystem status assessments, policy development, and management.

Topics​ include:

  • Development of inter- and transdisciplinary approaches tailored to the structure and working methods of ICES
  • Developing and improving social and economic indicators
  • Describing alternative futures and management options for marine social-ecological systems
  • Assessing the vulnerability and resilience of marine industries and society to climate change
  • Investigating the social and economic consequences of management actions​
