PICES Human Dimensions Committee promotes and coordinates interdisciplinary research that leads to increased understanding of the relationship between North Pacific marine ecosystems and the people, communities, and economies that are part of those systems and rely on the resources and services they provide.
International Institute of Fisheries Economics & Trade (IIFET) promotes interaction and exchange between people from all countries and professional disciplines on marine resource economics and trade issues.
The European Association of Fisheries Economists (EAFE) promotes co-operation in economic research in fisheries and aquaculture; assists in the dissemination of information about fisheries economics among members; undertakes any activity deemed appropriate to further the understanding of fisheries economics and serves as a channel of communication with other interested bodies.
North American Association of Fisheries Economists (NAAFE) promotes cooperation in economic research about fisheries, with a focus on North America but with considerable European and global participation.
The European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) contributes to the development and application of environmental and resource economics as a science in Europe; encourages and improves communication between teachers, researchers and students in environmental and resource economics in different European countries and develops and encourages cooperation between university level teaching institutions and research institutions in Europe.
Centre for Maritime Research (MARE) conducts interdisciplinary social science relating to the use and management of marine resources. Collaborations with natural scientists are an important part of the Centre's research. MARE takes a global perspective, emphasising the coastal zones of Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) represents the interests of professional anthropologists in a wide range of settings including academia, business, law, health and medicine and government. The majority of US fisheries anthropologists are members, along with those from some other countries.
The NOAA Fisheries Office of Science and Technology (S&T) coordinates the activities of U.S. national activities and the work of Regional Science Centers and Regional Offices that have Economics and Social Science Research Programs. The NOAA Fisheries Economics Program and the NOAA Fisheries Human Dimensions Program provide information on the national and regional fisheries economics and human dimensions research and data collection programs. NOAA's Integrated Ecosystem Assessment Program also is supported by NOAA Fisheries S&T and has both social and natural scientists active throughout the regions of the United States.
STECF - Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF) – is an advisory body of the European Commission that is consulted on matters relating to the conservation and management of living marine resources, including biological, economic, environmental, social and technical considerations.
Centre for Marine Socioecology – addresses the current and future use of our marine coasts and oceans. The Centre is a joint collaboration between the University of Tasmania, CSIRO and the Australian Antarctic Division and brings together expertise in physics, law, economics, biology, sociology, and governance. The Centre uses this expertise to focus on the complex issues that are developing in the management of the marine estate.
