ICES Annual Science Conference 2021

Code of conduct

Join us in creating a respectful and inclusive event!

We expect all participants to follow our code of conduct and meeting etiquette when dealing with others:

  • Embrace diversity – Value the different views, expertise, and backgrounds, which strengthen the long-term success of ICES.
  • Include equally – Ensure the right of others to equally participate in ICES activities without bias or discrimination based on family status, gender, age, race, political and religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or disability.
  • Communicate thoughtfully – Aim to communicate openly and address others with dignity.
  • Avoid harassment – Use discretion and respect others. Harassment, bullying, intimidation, or discrimination in any form is unacceptable. Harassment includes speech or behaviour that is not welcome or is personally offensive. Behaviour that is acceptable to one person may not be acceptable to another, so use discretion to be sure respect is communicated. Harassment intended in a joking manner still constitutes unacceptable behaviour.
  • Promote wellbeing – Follow and encourage others to uphold a safe and welcoming working environment. Be mindful of your surroundings and colleagues and immediately report any situations that are dangerous or distressing to others.

Social media code of conduct

ASC participants are encouraged to share their experiences at the ASC via social media. Thus, please inform the audience if you do not wish your presentation or poster to be cited in social media. You can do this by adding a notice on your presentation and/or poster page in Whova, the conference app.

The ASC is an open forum, and it is also intended to be a respectful one. Please be mindful when posting information on social media.

Important notice

We are aware that the dates for this year's ICES Annual Science Conference coincide with dates for the celebration of the Jewish New Year or Rosh Hashanah. This is inconsistent with ICES commitment to inclusivity and we regret that some members of our community will be unable to participate fully in the ASC.

Because this year's event will be virtual, all presentations are available for online viewing for an extended period (23 August to 30 September). We hope this will allow everyone the opportunity to participate in ASC 2021 to some extent. We apologize for the conflicting dates and are committed to ensuring future ASCs are scheduled in an inclusive manner.
