A number of events organized especially for early career scientists will take place at the ASC.

​​ICES: What? Who? How?

Monday 24 September
8:00–9:45, room 121

Many early career scientists attending the ASC have a lot of questions about how to become a member of our community. Simon Jennings, the Chair of ICES Science Committee (SCICOM), introduces this event for early career scientists to kick off the week.

Enjoy your morning coffee while getting to know some of the key people within the organization, who will be there to answer all of your questions.​

Mentor meet up

If you signed up for the mentor programme, meet your mentor on Monday near the coffee break area in the marquee.

Pop Up Scientist

Each lunchtime, a lively question and answer session will take place with a variety of scientists. Look for the orange submarine at the west wing foyer!

A discussion on the use of evidence, best available science, the credibility and legitimacy of ICES with Mark Dickey-Collas, the new Chair of ICES Advisory Committee (ACOM).

Tuesday 25 September

Careers outside the laboratory – can we do that?
ICES Professional Officer Anne Cooper leads a discussion on the different career paths for scientists.

Wednesday 26 September

How to get published
Ask Howard Browman, Editor-in-Chief of ICES Journal of Marine Science, your questions on getting your paper accepted and published.

Thursday 27 September

A social scientist, an economist, and a natural scientist walk into a bar…
Just how are the different sciences integrating in ICES work? Jörn Schmidt and Alan Haynie, from ICES Strategic Initiative on the Human Dimension, have the answers.
