ICES Bureau, the Executive Committee of the Council, met on 9-10 July at ICES Headquarters in Copenhagen. One of the main issues discussed was the renewal of the ICES Strategic Plan, which will set the direction of work for the organization from 2014-2018. A first draft of this new ICES Strategic Plan will be shared with cooperation partners at the beginning of October.
Among other issues discussed were the expansion of ICES work in the Arctic and how to foster collaboration with the Arctic Council, currently under Canadian Chairmanship. During a web conference with representatives from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, several concrete areas of cooperation were identified for follow up.
Last but not least the Bureau recommended, for consideration and approval by the ICES Council, an investment in IT tools that will ease working procedures in the organization and facilitate the work of the ICES community.
The Bureau will hold its next meeting on 24 September during the Annual Science Conference in Reykjavik.
