Nominate an early career scientist to speak at ASC 2023

Call opens today as ICES accepts nominations for early career scientist keynote speaker at ASC 2023 in Bilbao, Spain.

To support the integration of early career scientists in our research community, ICES is offering an early career researcher the opportunity to take centre stage at the 2023 Annual Science Conference (ASC 2023).

ICES has now opened the call to nominate an early career scientist keynote speaker at ASC 2023. The Strategic Initiative on Integration of Early Career Scientists (SIIECS) successfully piloted this process for the 2022 ASC in Dublin and is pleased to provide this exceptional opportunity again for ECS to present their research, build their career, and engage with ICES community.

Within SIIECS, Daniel Ottmann, DTU Aqua, is leading the Term of Reference that encourages the inclusion of ECS in ICES expert groups and other activities. "This is an exceptional opportunity for an ECS to boost their career perspectives and expand their career network. In SIIECS, we are looking forward to endorsing an excellent ECS to deliver this keynote. We are now looking for candidates, so we ask you to either nominate yourself or nominate an ECS from your network".

An outstanding start

ICES ASC 2022 was the first time that a nomination process for an early career scientist keynote speaker at ICES Annual Science Conference. The first edition of this initiative brought a captivating keynote by Cornelia Jaspers, DTU Aqua Marine ecosystems under change: Do we face a more gelatinous future?

Jaspers said, “This was a great experience, fun and honour to present a 50 min keynote at the annual ICES meeting." Watch the clip below to hear more about Jaspers' presentation.

SIIECS ask you to identify and nominate accomplished early career scientists in your network who you think can deliver an engaging keynote speech. Do you know someone you would like to nominate? Are you interested in taking this opportunity for yourself? Nominations are being accepted until 20 November 2022​​. 


Nominations close on 20 November (midnight CET). The selected candidate will be contacted in December and is expected to confirm their availability within one week.
