ICES named as IODE ADU

ICES has just been accredited with Associated Data Unit (ADU) status within the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commissions (IOC) marine data programme, the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE).
Published: 14 February 2014

IODE promotes the exchange of international marine data, and its members are at the forefront in terms of data standards, data quality, and data exchange. Cooperating with IODE strengthens ICES work and brings a more global approach to our work on data exchange.

IODEs members have traditionally comprised the various national oceanographic data centres (NODCs). However, to reflect the changing face of international marine data and to acknowledge the active cooperation of organisations such as ICES, IODE has established a membership of Associated Data Units (ADU). ICES are now the second marine organisation to gain this approval from IODE, the first being Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 2013.

Having received this new status within IODE, ICES commits to actively promoting IODE standards and following IODE training practices, with IODE reciprocating on their side. To ensure a consistent approach from both parties, IODE and ICES will meet in the coming weeks to discuss streamlining their respective data quality manuals.

ICES and the IOC have a long established working relationship and cooperate on many levels including various working groups and symposia.
