Take a look around our new online library.
Published: 3 March 2022

ICES has launched a new online library. As well as continued access to ICES current and past publications, users can look forward to a number of benefits.

Users of our online library have often asked for better search functionality. Along with delivering on this request, the new library provides increased links between publications of the same type – making it easier to find what you are looking for as well as discovering similar research.

The new library is hosted by the figshare platform. Figshare allows us to track the impact and use of publications - through citations, altmetrics, readership, and downloads. Figshare also offers library users the possibility to follow content and receive alerts on saved searches, when something new is published in a series or by an ICES group of interest. All that is needed is a figshare account.

External publications

Each year, there are many publications that emerge from the work of ICES expert groups, sponsored symposia, or using ICES data. We have included an External Publications Database in the new library so that users can easily view and access journal articles, books, and other publications related to our work but published elsewhere. New or missing external publications can be submitted directly to the library for consideration.

Can't find what you're looking for?

ICES publications have been using the DOI system for many years and these links will now automatically redirect to where the specific publication is stored in the new library. Other links previously used to access an ICES publication will now redirect to our library landing page, from where users can access the new library and search for their publication.

During the first few weeks of operation, users will be able to access all ICES publications from the past 8-10 years. While the majority of older publications are also there, the Publications team are still in the process of adding those publications that were first published more than 20 years ago, as well as some of the older series. They hope to have completed the transfer in the next few week but if you are having trouble finding something, you should just contact them.

To help orient users in the new library, we have produced a number of tutorial videos. The Publications team are looking forward to hearing your feedback on what they hope will be a positive addition our online tools.
