Yesterday's event, held at WMU, saw ICES Head of Science Programme Adi Kellerman and Professional Projects Coordinator Wojciech Wawrzynski address a series of topics as they spoke alternately on the challenges and emerging aspects of research, continental management policies, and enhancing interdisciplinary science cooperation. European Research Area financing as well as ICES science and advice past and present were also on the agenda.

The half-day seminar, entitled The European Research Landscape: Structure, Funding, Policies and Communication, was delivered to international group of participants whose members were also able to engage in discussion with the scientists.

The event took place as part of ICES new collaboration with WMU, an institution with more than a mind for marine affairs. Founded by the UN's International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 1983, the postgraduate maritime university has over 3,300 alumnae from 163 countries and continues to offer Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees through a spectrum of courses on the likes of maritime law and policy, shipping and port management, and international transport and logistics.
