Press release - ICES releases advice for Barents Sea capelin, Northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis), and Elasmobranch stocks

This week, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) released advice on the exploitation of Barents Sea capelin, Northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis), and Elasmobranch stocks in 2015.
Published: 10 October 2014

For Barents Sea capelin, on the basis of the management plan agreed by the Joint Norwegian–Russian Fisheries Commission, ICES advises that catches in 2015 should be no more than 6000 tonnes.

The Pandalus advice comprises three stocks in the Fladen Ground, Skagerrak and the Norwegian Deep, and Barents Sea.

Advice on Elasmobranch stocks includes ray and skate stocks in the Celtic seas and Bay of Biscay and is the first time that ICES gives quantitative advice on landings or catches for these stocks.

The conceptual and methodological basis for the advice is available from the ICES website.

Popular versions of the advice released today will be available on the ICES website on 20 October.

You can find ICES advice online.
