Early career scientists

There will be a special programme for early career scientists at the ASC in Gateshead.

Applications for travel funding for early career scientists is now open - apply by 1 June 2024.

Travel funds for early career scientists

Limited travel funds are available for early career scientists from ICES member countries. First-time participation at the ASC is especially encouraged.

To be eligible for funds, applicants must meet the following requirements:

have an accepted abstract for ASC 2024
be 35 years of age or younger OR have completed their PhD within the last five years
have an affiliation with one of ICES Member Countries

Submitted applications will be assessed based on the following criteria:

originality of work as shown in abstract
significance of the work to one of the theme sessions

SIIECS seminar series - ASC special

Are you presenting a poster or a paper at the 2024 ASC? Would you like the opportunity to rehearse before the big day in front of an audience and receive feedback?

The Strategic Initiative on Integration of Early Career Scientists (SIIECS) online seminar series provides an informal and supportive forum for especially early career scientists to practice giving oral presentations. During the session, presenters get constructive feedback while using the opportunity to get rid of their 'nervous jitters' before their actual presentation. 

A special ASC edition will take place on 13 August 2024.
